LNSA BOSS, OYEKAN TO OTHER SECURITY AGENCIES – ‘WE EXIST TO SUPPORT THEM NOT TO SUPPLANT THEM’

The General Manager of the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency (LNSA), Prince Dr. Ifalade Oyekan has emphasized the collaborative role that his agency plays in the scheme of things in the protection of lives and properties in Lagos. He made this known during the maiden edition of Miss Security Nigeria 2021 which held last weekend in Lagos.

Speaking through his representative, Abidemi Ogunlana who is the Head of Research and Development of the agency, Prince Oyekan shared: ‘LNSA was created in 2016 to provide support services to all security agencies in Lagos state. The principle behind the establishment of the agency is that safety comes first. We ensure that there is safety in our communities. The Governor recently displayed a 700-page report of our agency documenting abandoned buildings in Lagos state.’

‘We want to implore Lagosians that without you, we can achieve nothing. Before 9/11 attacks, the whole world believed that security depends only on security agencies. But after 9/11 we know that it is different. We believe and rely on the support of people of Lagos. We also want to call on all security agencies to see us as their baby.’

In the same vein, he addressed the general public. ‘We believe that our relationship with the public is the first thing we need. We see the relationship as our core strength. But you will also agree with me that people is our greatest weakness. Every time we support security agencies by providing intelligence, we find that people of the society go back to sometimes compromise our reports and decisions.’

On their method of recruitment, Mr. Ogunlana noted: ‘One of our key objectives is to ensure that there is no discrimination. All our officers are drawn from various areas irrespective of ethnicity. We are supposed to have 100 officers in each of the LGs/LCDAs but by resignation and other circumstances, our numbers have depleted. In the few years of our existence, we have been able to form formidable support for all agencies in the state. Currently, we don’t bear arms.’

Meanwhile, the general manager of the agency, Dr. Oyekan was honored and inducted with the MSN Hall of Fame Award on community security safety management at the security advocacy event, Miss Security Nigeria Beauty Pageant.
